I heard the pounding of feet
soft sighs of defeat
something had gone wrong
my mind paced as I watched on
I looked at them but they didn't see
the look in their eyes as they looked to the sky
pale blue framed by blood true
a fire burned in their heart just waiting for a spark
those melancholy skies
the sense of hope died
they waited until the cloud covered the moon
I felt the tempo of their hearts start to move
it was a drumming beat
together they rose to their feet
with the shot of a gun they began to run
they ran from their past
no regrets
just laughs
their troubles unmasked
it set them free
allowed them to breathe
to
joy, it came in a small box
hidden away
buried beneath dirt and clay
a box we dreamed
hoped to see
it always seemed to slip away
a day in spring
this box it gleamed
calling me from far away
my weary feet
carried the beat
rushing towards the bay
a beautiful thing that called to me
drifted along the way
pulling me swiftly into the bay
joy came to me
allowing me to see
washing my sorrows away
hand in hand
with nothing to harrow our plans
we found the courage to begin again
swinging heads
clamoring eyes
sickly laughter
salvation dies
hope sauntered on
deserting us, goodbye
we wept and wept
yet we knew not why
standing alone
at peace
I cried
this loneliness had been divine
light forsaken
my light was taken
I poised in the dark
counting the moments with each beat of my heart
